Acropolis! Acropolis!

We made it to the top, and Thanasis’ cousin showed us around. It was like having our own private tour guide. He took us to all these different parts of Acropolis. Each architecture was impressive looking and I began wondering about the history. What the architects and other ancient Greeks were thinking when they built them and how figures of Greek myths were reality to them.

We got to the very famous Parthenon. It was amazing! I had only seen it in pictures in history or geography textbooks, and I was standing right there! Thanasis told me about the carefully calculated optical illusions. Oh, yeah, he’ an architecture major!!! Very knowledgeable!!! He also told me that the Ottoman Turks attacked the Parthenon and that’s one of the reasons that it’s not in its complete form. What we do to the history!
Thanasis and his cousin also told me that the air pollution and fire damaged some parts of the building. I looked up and realized that the ceilings were black. Wow! Pollution has its influence even on the Parthenon!!! I thanked Thanasis’ cousin, we left the area.

Just outside the gate, though, some Bangladesh boys were selling toys. They were funny toys, so I bought some. They were selling each one for 2 euro, but I negotiated the price and got 4 for 5 euro. I think I could’ve asked for more discount, but 1 more euro may not mean much to me, but 1 more euro may mean a lot to them, so I stopped there. Besides, Brazilian tourists (I talked with them) said they paid 5 Euro for 3. (^^)
